Job Description

Established mid-cap international manufacturing organization looks for a Director Project Management office. No PMO exists today so you will be developing the office, staffing and establishing procedures and methodology. Company is growing organically and through acquisition. Some projects will be ERP (oracle) related, others entail integration of new acquisitions.

Your responsibilities

  • Establish the Project Management Office (PMO) including PMO organization structure, setting standards of team capabilities and success measures
  • Assist in managing the Portfolio Management process to ensure a systematic process is in place to approve and prioritize projects, and evaluate the impact of cross portfolio initiatives
  • Leader, enabling your learning of our current project management processes and delivery effectiveness from the inside out
  • Provide project management process guidance, and support the project teams with recommendations for continuous process improvement, delegation/alignment of project work assignments, and consistent adherence to the project stage gate control process and efficient tracking of project milestones and deliverables
  • Build a team of 3 Project Managers as the PMO matures during the first 18 months
  • Oversees project management activities at the portfolio level through project reviews with the management team and Project Managers; Takes an active role in resolving escalated issues; Oversees that project closure is performed properly and timely for all projects in the portfolio
  • Plans, assigns and manages project resources based on competencies, project fit and availability
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders of the PMO Serves as an escalation point for individual and systemic project management issues
  • Oversee project planning, initiation, execution, and monitoring
  • Facilitates Executive Summary Reviews on project progress and performance targets, resource allocation, Project Budget/cost effectiveness, and KPI’s
  • Maintains awareness of industry standards and tools for project management and ensures adherence to best practices


Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering field is required with minimum of 10-15 years of experience in Project Management in a manufacturing company setting
  • PMP Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification a mplus
  • Direct experience and credibility as a senior-level, hands-on Project Manager in a manufacturing and production environment is required
  • Must have Expert-level knowledge of project and change management and associated methodologies, techniques, processes, and approaches (e.g. Project and Portfolio Management Methodology - PPM)
  • Previous Leadership accountability in establishing a new PMO, or significantly improving the capabilities of an existing PMO is required
  • Budget, cost, and profitability management skills are required
  • Proven strategic planning with ability to juggle multiple goals and deadlines in the context of the big picture is required
  • Must possess the ability to mentor, coach and develop Project Managers and effectively transfer expertise to others
  • Must have ability to travel in first year, which will then lower in subsequent years
